SITE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
The W. Haywood Burns Institute for Juvenile Justice Fairness and Equity (BI) is a national non-profit organization established to protect and improve the lives of youth of color, poor children and their communities by ensuring fairness and equity throughout all public and private youth serving systems. The BI convenes local traditional and non-traditional stakeholders such as law enforcement, the Court, prosecutors, public defenders, and youth serving professionals, community leaders, parents and youth to address racial and ethnic disparities in the local juvenile justice system.
Specifically, BI staff leads the collaborative through a data-driven, consensus-based process designed to identify, and if necessary, change policies and practices that negatively impact youth of color and poor children. The Site Manager position leads work with other BI staff that are experts in community engagement and data and policy.
The Site Manager will report directly to the Site Management Director.
Among other responsibilities, he or she will:
• Regularly attend local advisory board and subcommittee meetings;
• Supervise, collaborate and provide expert technical assistance to each local site coordinator and the local Advisory Bodies, particularly the Chairs, to explain all aspects of the BI process;
• Conduct orientation to any new stakeholders to the Burns Institute's process;
• Develop "site specific" strategies to analyze juvenile justice data, policies and practices that may affect disproportionality;
• Facilitate productive communication among key stakeholders to ensure their consistent participation in the BI Site-based process;
• Supervise the implementation of the BI's self-evaluation process on the local level; and
• Understand and analyze quantitative and qualitative data with great facility.
• Work with BI communications staff to promote successes and noteworthy activities in each site.
Additional Qualifications:
The ideal candidate is a resourceful forward-thinker with a minimum of 3 years of experience in the field of juvenile justice reform. The successful applicant is also a highly organized, proactive, self starter with excellent written and oral communications skills. Importantly, the successful applicant must be extremely comfortable speaking in public to different sized groups and diverse audiences. The ideal candidate must be able to work collaboratively as a team in the sites he or she will manage, and be confident making strategic decisions about the best course of action in sites. He or she must be able to interact diplomatically with a range of professionals including judges, Chief Probation Officers, lawyers, community leaders, public officials, parents, and youth. Tact, discretion, judgment and the ability to function in a confidential capacity are required. Applicant must be able to travel up to 70% of the time. Bi-lingual and bi-cultural candidates are particularly desired. Strong computer skills are required.
